Auteur theory

The Autuer theory is when the director’s film reflects the director’s creative vision. It is when you can see the director’s ideas and influence through the studio interference.

Autuer theory is when a director establishes a certain style and uses it in most of their works.

It was first used in 1954 by film director and critic François Truffaut. It was later used in America by critic Andrew Sarris. Sarris used Autuer theory to further the analysis of what defines serious work o0f directors and their films.

Can you find an example of your own? You need to find a music video director who is linked with your choice of music.

Ben Fee – director of the Lumineers ‘Ho Hey’ music video.

How is this director an Auteur?

Ben Fee is an Auter because he has created several differen music videos which contain elements that are used in the vcariety of his videos. For example, he tends to have the singing artists within the videos singing at one point or another.

His viewpoint seems to be that the singers are important and should be displayed within the video.
