Intertextuality

Intertextuality is when a piece of media is created on inspiration of another media piece: sometimes parodying the original. Intertexuality is used to reference something that already exists, maybe to show the appreciation of it or to derive it.

This is the original music video for Hold On by Don Broco.

This is a parody edition of the original, and it was created by the group.

This use of intextuality by Don Broco may appeal to the audience as it shows a glimpse into the group's life when touring: it also gives the audience a feel of what the members are actually like. The original video of Hold On portrays the musicians appearing to be full of themselves and quite vain while the parody shows the group almost joking about their level of vanity and not taking themselves too seriously (unlike in the actual video).

We have used intertexuality as shown in our MoodBoard. We have been very much influenced by other folk musicians such as Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers. Our plot for the video is also inspired by these musicians and so is the set; props; costumes.

Intertextuality we have used (video example):

We have used intertextuality when looking at this video as it has helped to inspire costume, setting, lighting and prop ideas (below images show this).
