| This is the first page of our storyboard. It shows the young male protagonist holding an unopened letter (which to begin with the audience do not know from who or where it came). You then see the protagonist receiving a text or several, which is from his friends saying that they have got into university and asking the protagonist if he has or not: you then know that the letter is to do with university. The protagonist then closes his eyes and goes into a fantasy sort of place. This may be interpreted by the audience as a dream, a day-dream or even a memory. When he opens his eyes, he is in nature and with his friends - a reflection of a better time, where he is still with his friends. |
| This is the second page of our storyboard. In this part we show him being with his friends, but we want that constant memory of the letter to be there (even in the protagonist's imagination). We will reflect this by showing that though he is with his friends, he is often on the outside of the group: he is left out and quite often the butt of the jokes. In one part of the story board we have the group shielding their eyes from the sun, if it rains, what we will do is have the characters just looking at something in the distance or have them sheltering themselves from the rain with their arms. At the end of this part of the storyboard, the characters make their way to a giant tree which plays as an important prop and set for the characters. |
This is the third page of our storyboard. This is the section where we have the characters climbing the tree. This point needs to reflect the line 'Higher branches'. This will reflect Goodwin's theory as the visuals (characters climbing trees, up higher branches) matches the lyrics. We are also using 'Higher branches' as a metaphor for higher education to once again bring back the Protagonist's worry and angst. This part of the storyboard is where the character runs away from the rest of the group, annoyed and upset. We wanted to show him running to show how upset he is. We then are going to have him reaching a lake in which he starts chucking stones into a lake to represent his anger and frustration.
In this scene we also have the group noticing that the protagonist is gone and begin to look for him.

This is the fourth page of our storyboard. This is the scene where the protagonist begins throwing stones into the lake to vent his frustration. We plan to show his feelings mainly through body posture and gestures rather than facial expression (we're doing this to show that he is upset and annoyed and that you don't need to see his face to understand that).
By the end of this page of the storyboard, you see the group of friends finding him and cheering him up (due to the fact that they searched for him).

This is the fifth page of our storyboard. It is the part about the band lip syncing. Though it is not show completed here we have since completed it. We are using a variety of shots of the band pretending to play instruments and the protagonist lip syncing to the song.
The music video ends with the group making their way to the beach messing around and laughing while the protagonist sits on the cliff watching them. At this point he is not annoyed with the group, he chose to stay behind and we show this by portraying him smiling and laughing at the group. At this point it is like a sense of tranquility for the protagonist, he is at peace with himself; this is reflected by the change of tempo of the song (it slows down a lot - we will have the protagonist lip syncing this part).
As the music fades the camera will look through the actor's eyes out onto the lake before jumping back to his eyes closing. The protagonist's eyes then open and he is back in his bedroom.
He opens the letter and all the audience will see is 'Congratulations'.
