Magazine adverts- Noah and the Whale
![]() |
| This is a magazine advert for the digipak 'The First Days of Spring' by Noah an the Whale. Noah and the Whale fits in with our genre as it is indie folk. It fits in with their target audience due to the colouring and the set of the image - it shows the group in nature with natural lighting (which fits in with the folk genre). It also has a review from another magazine/newspaper/critic that has given it 4 stars: this is to show the audience how great it is and make them want it even more. It also says what the digipak includes (CD, deluxe edition CD/DVD and a new and popular song) - this is to show the target audience all the things they can get with it and it will make them want it more as it includes a popular song. |

|
Strengths:
·
You have
completed careful research into other similar music videos.
·
Recce shots
were very good.
·
You have
reflected on your focus group results.

|
Areas for improvement:
·
When you use
Josh’s slideshare you cannot gain a mark for this as this is his work.
·
Research into
special visual effects.
·
Complete a risk
assessment.
·
Costumes,
shooting schedule, animatic etc… all need to be on your blog. Please check
the hand-out to see what needs to be uploaded.
·
The research
and planning is difficult to navigate. Create labels – one for research and
one for planning. Then place the relevant posts under these labels.

Intertextuality
Intertextuality is when a piece of media is created on inspiration of another media piece: sometimes parodying the original. Intertexuality is used to reference something that already exists, maybe to show the appreciation of it or to derive it.
This is the original music video for Hold On by Don Broco.
This is a parody edition of the original, and it was created by the group.
This use of intextuality by Don Broco may appeal to the audience as it shows a glimpse into the group's life when touring: it also gives the audience a feel of what the members are actually like. The original video of Hold On portrays the musicians appearing to be full of themselves and quite vain while the parody shows the group almost joking about their level of vanity and not taking themselves too seriously (unlike in the actual video).
Intertextuality we have used (video example):
We have used intertextuality when looking at this video as it has helped to inspire costume, setting, lighting and prop ideas (below images show this).
