Evaluation planning

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Could answer this using prezi. Look at existing artists' digipaks and adverts - compare and contrast with bands like Noah and the Whale, Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers.
My work challenges the conventions of the folk genre as I've got a different style for my digipak cover. However it also develops from real media products as I've taken ideas from other existing products and developed he theme of nature.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Could be a video. Talk about how they link together, mainly on he theme of nature (based mainly on trees). Compare and contrast, say how and why they work together, and then talk about the parts that do not fit together.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
This could be a blogger post but use statistics. Post results and then discuss them. (Carry out audience feedback first). Use different social networking sites such as tumblr, twiter and facebook.
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
This post could be another prezi but include videos as well.
Used: search engines, photoshop, powerpoints, slideshare, blogger, premier pro cs6, youtube, vimeo, cameras, phones.
Say why I used these things and how.

Post-16 Feedback Form

Focus:
Digipak and Magazine Advertisement (16/01/13)
Strengths:
1.      You have shown competence when manipulating photographs as appropriate, including cropping and resizing. (Level 3)
2.      You have shown an awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size (Level 4)
3.      You have shown an awareness of conventions of layout and page design (Level 4)
Areas for improvement:
1.     You need to show your competence when framing a shot, using a variety of shot distances as appropriate – this needs to be your own photography. (Level 4)
2.     You need to show competence when shooting material appropriate to the task set; selecting mise-en-scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting. (Level 4)
Resulting Actions  (student response):

To improve, I could edit the lighting within the picture and talk about the mise-en—scène more

Digipak inside

This is the inside of my digipak so far.

The entire inside of the digipak is themed by trees, the background, the art and even the images on the CD and DVD.
The background has been made from a picture of a tree bark to make the casing look like it is part of a tree.
The CD and DVD have the same image of a tree that I took but I changed the colouring to show a difference between the two discs. I also gave it an almost rough art like style to match the cover.
The central piece consists of two different images that I took, one of the sky and the other a cluster of trees.

Digipak outside

This is my first attempt at creating the outside of my digipak.
The part on the right is the cover of the album.

The image on the left is just an additional part of the digipak, it's purpose is to be artwork for the target audience to look at and admire hence the reason the photograph has been embossed.

The back part of the digipak is the songs listing - I decided to keep this part plain black as I want the audience's focus to be on the songs listed rather than imagerey. Keeping the background plain black also makes the writing stand out more.

Magazine Ad

This is my first attempt of a magazine advert for my digipak (created on photoshop).
I decided to go with an image that has a focus on nature to fit in with the folk genre and the album title Trees - I made sure to have two members of the band in the background of the picture so the image isn't soley based on nature.
The colours of the writing have been chosen so that they stand out from the background and catch the audience's attention.

I have also included an image of the digipak cover so the audience would know what they are looking for if they decide to purchase it.

Digipak Cover

This is my digipak with a change of font for 'The Oh Hellos', I am now using Minion Pro bold cond italic as I feel this is more suitable for my digipak. This font idea was taken from previous research into fonts (in which I foundMinion Pro to be a popular font choice for folk music).

Post-16 Feedback Form

Focus:
Digipak cover feedback
Strengths:
1.      A good cohesion between the front and the back.
2.      Your font choice for the song’s name stands out really well and it catches your eye straight away.
3.      You have incorporated some but not all of the conventions of form.
Areas for improvement:
1.      This is from OCR: The digipak and magazine advertisement “should be based on actual research by the candidates, illustrated in their evidence, so that they can justify their choices by reference to industry practice.” Have you ensured this is the case?
2.      How does your product reflect all of your planning and research?
3.      What place will your digipak cover have in the industry – do they usually have an embossed style of image or is this a new venture?
Resulting Actions  (student response):

1)      Began to illustrate evidence.
2)      Starting to show how my product reflects my planning and research

First Attempt at a Digipak cover

This is my original design for my Digipak cover with my own photography, created on photoshop.
I embossed the image to blur it and give it an almost sketched look as I thought this would stand out to my target  audience. My target audience ranges from  late teens to young adult to adult (about 16 to 30), I think this design would appeal to my target audience fo many reasons. One reason is that it's not very often that you see this sort of design on a digipak and because it is different it will stand out more. Another reason this design will appeal to my target audience is that it has a focus on nature (trees in particular) - the artwork works well as you often associate art with nature (you see alot of paintings and drawings of nature).

My digipak cover is quite differen to the digipaks I have loked at such as Noah and the Whale and Mumford and Sons - though it is different it still fits in with the folk genre.

The one thing I dislike about my digipak is the font that 'The Oh Hellos' is written in so I may change that so it suits the image more.
